Volunteer!

Want to get active in the local blues scene? There’s plenty to do here at BLUSD! If you have some free time and want to help our organization, read about the Volunteer Teams below.  If you see yourself having fun volunteering with one of those teams, then fill out the form at the end of this page.   Or if you have another idea on how you can help BLUSD to support Blues and our BITS program, then let us know (fill out the form below).     Make sure you leave us at least one way to contact you, email or telephone. And let us know the most convenient time to reach you.

We do so much during the year to keep our Blues in the Schools Program going that we have divided up our activities into Volunteer Teams.  Which team sounds like fun to you?

Festival Team

Volunteers for the Festival Team can work any of the following Festivals – Flower Fields Blues Day (April), Spring Harp Fest (April), Gator by the Bay (Mother’s Day weekend), and/or Julian Blues Bash (Father’s Day weekend.   We need people who are good at talking about the blues and our cause which is our Blues in the Schools Program and our mission to promote the blues to keep this genre alive.   We bring everything and you just show up and use your gift of gab and beaming smile to make new friends that share your love of the blues. Plus you’ll be signing up people for memberships and selling cool swag such as our WWMD t-shirts, harmonicas, harmonica necklaces and CDs.    Every volunteer gets free entry to the festival in exchange for a 3-4 hour shift that will fly by in a flash.   If you want to work hard but have a whole lot of fun too, then sign up for the Festival team and tell us which festivals you would like to volunteer for.

Regional IBC Team

Volunteers that work during our Regional International Blues Challenge work along with BLUSD board members at local venues like the Belly Up, Humphreys, and Winston’s to help make the event run smoothly and on time.   The IBCs are very exciting events where you get to see 5 – 6 bands give their best 20 minute performance as they compete to be the band we will send to Memphis.   During these events we need people to do fairly easy but important jobs to keep this event moving along as we have a time limit and must be done judging and out of the venue on time.   We need raffle ticket sellers, time keepers, door attendants, and a stage manager who can set up a drum kit.   This volunteer position is a lot of fun and you get into the venue for free.   The IBC’s are held on Saturday afternoons from 1:00 – 5:00 during September or October.    If this sounds like something fun for you, let us know.

Membership Party Team

Volunteers that work on the Membership Party Team are people that love planning parties and setting up a totally awesome event to thank all of our members for a year of making this all happen.   You will work along with BLUSD board members and the budget allocated to create a wonderful evening featuring a national act and a local act.   This party is free and a new benefit to our members.  If you have party planning skills, then let us know you want to be involved.

Newsletter/Website Team

Volunteers that work on the Newsletter/Website Team work with the Editor to write or compile articles about blues activities in San Diego that will be published in the Blue Ink or on www.blusd.org.   If you have an interest in submitting articles about blues events, blues music, blues artists, blues art, blues CD’s or any other related topic, please let us know if you would like to be on this team.

BITS Volunteers

If you have experience with fund raising, teaching children, or you are a Blues musician that is interested in getting involved with our Blues in the Schools Program or our Blues Camp we can use your help.     Please contact our BITS coordinator gro.dsulbnull@STIB.
