The Blues Foundation’s International Blues Challenge takes place in Memphis from January 29-February 2, 2013. Every year, BLUSD sponsors a band or solo/duo act to compete for world-wide recognition. Nathan James & Ben Hernandez, Aunt Kizzy’s Boys and Sue Palmer have taken honors in recent years and turned the spotlight on San Diego’s blues community.

Now is the time for solo/duo musicians to register to participate in BLUSD regional Blues Challenge for a chance to represent. This year’s preliminary solo/duo competition will take place at Humphrey’s Backstage Live on October 13 and 20, from 1-5 p.m. each day. Finals will be on November 4 at Winston’s in Ocean Beach, CA. Don’t miss this opportunity to let your light shine on a MUCH larger stage! Entry forms can be downloaded from our website, www.blusd.org. Member bands receive a discounted entry fee.  Read more… in Sept BlueINK

Although this year’s competition is now in progress and registration is closed, we would like artsts to know that we do this every year.   We rotate between the categories Solo/Duo and Band.  So, in the Fall of 2013, we will have our Regional IBC for Bands.  And in 2014, we will again have our Regional IBC for Solo/Duos.  Also, BLUSD is one of the few blues organizations that pays the winner(s) way to Memphis.   If you would like to keep informed, search for us on Facebook as Blues Lovers United of San Diego and “Like” us.  Or you can get on our email list by sending a request to be added to our mailing list through our contact page.
