About BLUSD
Non-Profit Status
Blues Lovers United of San Diego (BLUSD) is a non-profit, membership-driven 501c3 corporation affiliated with The Blues Foundation of Memphis, Tennessee. We actively promote all aspects of blues music throughout Southern California through a variety of activities. Among these are:
- Publishing this website and our monthly newsletter, Blue Ink.
- Producing and co-producing blues music events for our members and the public at large at a number of venues in the San Diego area, including the International Blues Challenge and out annual Membership Appreciation Party.
- Conducting an ongoing Blues in the Schools (BITS) education program, exposing kids in primary and secondary education to the blues and its history, and operating a Blues Summer Camp for kids ages 11-17.
- Providing music instructors for Photocharity’s Homeless Youth Outreach Program.
- And a host of other activities for the Blues Lover.

Our Mission Statement
- Preserve and promote awareness and appreciation for The Blues – fundamental art form of American-born popular music.
- Entertain and educate blues audiences with newsletter and website publications.
- Generate a vigorous Blues In The Schools (BITS) program.
- Foster San Diego’s blues community.
- Stimulate visual and literary artistic blues expression.
- Present and support local and national artists and blues culture.
